The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is the central nervous system of the business. If it is healthy, it provides the sensory input to management, so they can understand what is happening with customers, suppliers, and employees. It helps management respond, by coordinating the company’s resources to win customers, deliver in full, on time to cost, manage the pound notes and integrate all business functions in doing so, just like muscles in a body.
Many Lean implementations fail due to a lack of Lean common sense. We need to apply the correct medicine at the correct time in the correct dosage. Too little will not help the patient but equally too much will cause harm.
Being a Lean Leader takes courage! It’s all about creating an environment in which your people can and want to succeed. That may mean having a style that lets people get on with it rather than have you looking over their shoulder. It gives people the confidence to know “how good they can be” and not afraid of not achieving. Controlled risk is good and should be rewarded not frowned upon.
Dave was initially engaged to prepare an Operations Improvement Plan for one of our facilities in USA. This was completed on time and presented back to the UK Management Team for acceptance. Subsequently, Dave worked with local management on implementation including the design and creation of a new operations team through to the early stages of a continuous improvement culture. He managed the Trans-Atlantic cultural differences with confidence and successfully gained acceptance and support for change using his direct yet supportive approach. We asked Dave to repeat this exercise with our Canadian Plant. Dave is clearly a highly experienced operator able to quickly adapt to different industry sectors and situations using his people management skills. I would not hesitate to use him again.
